![]() Pathways Awareness has conducted a second nationwide survey about trends in child development. The survey focuses on occupational and speech therapists who regularly work with young children. One goal of this survey was to determine whether lack of tummy time was connected to conditions such as colic, acid reflux and toe-walking. Another goal of this survey was to look at the relationship between lack of tummy time and/or undiagnosed early sensory, communication and motor delays in young children, and the difficulties that these children experience during the primary school years. These difficulties include issues with handwriting, delayed speech and high levels of tiredness during a typical school day. Therapists were asked whether they believe enough was being done to encourage early therapy. They were also asked whether they believed early therapy helped avoid or reduce the difficulties these children faced. The results of this survey are expected to be published in fall 2010.
